Beating degree, that is called "knocking degree" (OSR) of production enterprise. Beating degree is an index to reflect the degree of difficulty of pulp filtration. Generally, the greater the beating degree, the slower the water is filtered.

Canadian standard freeness (CSF), another notation of pulp drainability. Contrary to beating degree, the greater the degree of free water, the faster water filter. The measuring device is similiar to beating degree device, but there are some difference in measuring methods. There are many factors influcing pulp dewatering, but these factors affecting paper sheet don't disagree. Such as the fiber's fine fibrosis, which will affect the dehydration of the pulp, and is conducive to improve the strength of the paper; and fiber cutting will also affect the slurry dehydration, but will reduce the intensity of the page.

It can be seen that the paper pulp OSR can be improved by two different beating ways: fiber cutting or fine fiber. But the properties and strength of pulping are quite different, but the determination of beating degree can not distinguish them. Therefore, although the beating degree can comprehensively represent the beating function and effect of fibers being cut, split, swelling and hydration. But the beating degree can not simply represent the properties of the slurry, and it should be detected by other methods, so as to judge the real situation of beating on the fiber.
